The flights are expensive. The timing does not work. Or the trip simply has not happened yet, and the wedding date is approaching. For many couples planning from abroad, visiting Portugal before the wedding is simply not possible.
Can you really choose a venue, trust suppliers and make confident decisions without seeing everything for yourself?
The answer is yes and it is more common than most couples expect. At Name It Weddings & Events, many of the couples we work with book their venue before ever setting foot in Portugal. By the time they arrive, the important decisions have already been made.
What Changes When You Cannot Visit
The biggest challenge is making decisions about places you have never experienced in person.
Choosing between two venues, understanding how a space feels beyond the photographs, or knowing whether a supplier is the right fit all become more difficult when you are planning from abroad.
That is where local experience becomes essential. A venue is never judged only by its appearance, but by how the day actually unfolds there: how guests move through the space, how suppliers work together and which practical details only become obvious after planning real weddings.

How Name It Weddings & Events Replaces the Visit
When couples cannot visit a venue themselves, Name It Weddings & Events does it for them.
Rather than simply filming the space, we create detailed video walkthroughs with commentary tailored to each celebration. We explain how the venue functions in practice, point out details that photographs rarely capture, and highlight anything that could influence the experience for the couple or their guests.
When the layout of a venue matters, we sometimes add a simple sketch alongside the video, so couples can understand the flow of the day before they arrive.
When further detail is needed, we can also arrange calls between the couple and the venue’s own team, so specific questions get answered directly from the source.
The same approach applies to suppliers. Beyond the portfolio, we also consider who has experience at that particular venue, who works well within its logistical requirements, and who communicates in a way that matches each couple’s expectations throughout the planning process.
The Decisions Always Remain Yours
Planning remotely does not mean handing your wedding over to someone else.
Couples remain involved in every significant decision, from selecting the venue and suppliers to shaping the atmosphere they want to create. Our role is to provide the local perspective that would normally come from being here in person, allowing every decision to be made with confidence.
When Visiting Portugal Is Still Worth It
Although many couples plan their entire wedding remotely, there are situations where a trip to Portugal can make the process easier.
If you are choosing between several venues, considering different regions or simply feel more comfortable experiencing a place before making your final decision, an early planning visit can be valuable.
For couples already thinking about how far in advance to plan, that visit usually works best at the beginning of the planning process. Once the venue has been chosen, most of the remaining decisions can often be managed remotely with the support of your wedding planner.

Planning From Abroad With Confidence
Planning a destination wedding without visiting Portugal is no longer unusual. What makes the difference is not the number of trips you take, but the quality of the information behind every decision.
At Name It Weddings & Events, our role is to give couples the local insight they would have gathered themselves if they had been here, through venue visits, honest recommendations and experience built from planning weddings across Lisbon, Sintra, Cascais and the Alentejo.
Some couples visit Portugal before the wedding. Others arrive only a few days before the celebration itself. In our experience, both approaches can work beautifully when every decision is supported by local knowledge and thoughtful planning.
If you are planning your wedding from abroad, we would be delighted to show you how that works.
